IPhone as Invention of the Year
An example: look at what happens when you put the iPhone into “airplane” mode (i.e., no cell service, WiFi, etc.). A tiny little orange airplane zooms into the menu bar!
The above statement is part of the article when Time Magazine unveiled that IPhone is the Invention of the 2007, along with it, Time also jot down 5 reasons why IPhone is the best thing since 2007.
Among the reasons are as follows:
- It is pretty.
- It’s touchy-feely.
- It will make other phones better.
- It’s a platform.
- But a ghost of IPhones yet to come.
I have to agree though that IPhone set the standards of the mobile telecom industry rather higher what with the design and the technology within it. Seeing IPhone makes you want to grab one yourself and get geek-gasm all over your body with anticipation of the newer models. But is there anything earth shattering and life-changing for it to be the “Invention of the Year”?
It is a phone. With a lot of hype and the best marketing team to push it to the pedestal where it is now. Nothing more. It is a breakthrough alright, but isn’t there anything better?
Throughout the year, haven’t we made any breakthrough in terms of medicine? In space? Haven’t we created anything more significant than a touchscreen phone to change the way we do our lives? I won’t be surprised then if next year, Time will be recognizing Google Open Social as the next best thing.
