SEO (Over) Simplified
A lot of website owners think that getting the right domain name is enough to be placed high in the organic portion of the result pages of the search engines. Little that they know it almost has nothing to do with it if they will not optimize their site with the correct keywords.
Choosing the right keywords is the first of three steps in optimizing your site and it is considered to be the most important. The danger of choosing the wrong keyword can cause you getting the wrong type of audience for example, if you’re trying to market “Low-cost Energy Gas”, using just “gas” as a keyword may also bring people experiencing ‘Too much GAS in their body”. Now, wouldn’t that be a waste?
Second, placing the keywords properly in your site can earn you more points from the Search Engines crawling your site. There are the right places in your site where Search Engine may decide the relevancy of your site to those keywords that you’re using.
Last but not the least, the need to have link popularity or inbound links. You would want similar and relevant sites to have links to your website. From my example above, you would not want somebody selling Televisions having a link to your site that is selling ‘Low-cost Energy Gas’. You have to go for similar and relevant sites.
I consider SEO to be part Science and part Art. In addition, one must keep in mind that the search engine criteria or algorithm do change periodically but the three pointers above are its basic foundation and may not ever change.
